Challenge #193: Shadows & Silhouette’s

Over the years I’ve had several friends tell me about the Japanese art form of rope bondage, Shibari. The photographs out there are very intriguing, intricate and beautiful.

This photo was inspired by that art form. I love playing around with light and shadow and high contrast black and white imagery. This photo is one from a series I shot last year.

For this particular shot I had noticed the light just catching the edges of the steps on my staircase and thought it might make an interesting background for the subject matter. The harsh lines of light and shadow on the steps, are juxtaposed with the softness of the shadows that fall on the curves of the legs and rope. I used one of the black and white filters that comes installed on the iPhone XS photo app, and played around with a few settings including exposure, brilliance, and contrast.
